Restricted access to Faberge museum in St.Petersburg

The opening of Faberge museum in November 2013 has become a significant event in St. Petersburg cultural life and was widely announced by Russian cultural news portals. This private museum was founded by well-known Russian billionaire Viktor Vekselberg. It is located in Shuvalov Palace, Fontaka emb. 21, not far from Anichkov bridge, and represents a great collection of decorative art including a collection of famous Faberge Easter Eggs and some rare paintings and art objects from the Vekselberg's personal collection. When I first heard about it, I was very excited. I tried to find their web site or some contacts on the Internet to plan my visit but with no success. Later I found out that the museum is to become open to the public in December, 2013. In the beginning of January, 2014 me and my friend has finally decided to visit it and were quite disappointed when met with its closed doors. While we were standing there, very many people were coming to the museum later to go away just like us. There was an announcement that the visit to the museum must be booked in advance and may be arranged for groups only. It is the middle of February and the situation has not yet changed, the entrance to the museum is  still restricted. So when planning trip around St. Petesrburg, do not hesitate to ask the hotel staff if the museum is finally open to public. If not, ask if they can arrange a tour for you. We will keep you informed too.

Have a nice time in St. Petersburg!
